A Starry Sequoia Elopement

experiencing Sequoia under the stars

Eloping in Sequoia National Park offers a truly unique and breathtaking experience for couples who are seeking an intimate ceremony surrounded by some of the most magnificent trees on the planet. These towering sequoias are some of the largest trees on Earth, creating a majestic and awe-inspiring setting. But there’s more to Sequoia than its’ namesake. With serene meadows, panoramic mountain vistas, and roaring rivers couples can adventure beyond the forest and find a location that resonates with their personal style and vision. These two love birds had a unique vision and together we made something incredible.

We met up late in the day just a few hours before sunset and started things off with a hike along the Round Meadow trail. This quite forest glade is surrounded by towering giants and has so many little corners where you can create gorgeous shots. After thoroughly exploring the trail we made our way back to where we had parked at the giants forest museum and then continued onwards to Beetle Rock. Beetle Rock is such a cool location that offers a very different kind of beauty than what most think of for when they picture Sequoia. Here there are no towering trees, but instead sloping granite formations perched on the edge of the Sierra range. Offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and foothills. It’s an incredible place to catch a sunset. But it’s even better for star photos. After the sun set we hung out by our cars and waited for the sky to dim and allow the stars to appear one by one. A short walk back out and we had the entirety of the Milky Way shining above us as our backdrop. Absolute starry perfection.

Tips for Eloping

If you want to do star photos as part of your elopement you will need to do a little planning ahead. You’ll want to pick a date that is not near a full moon as it will wash out all the stars. For the day itself plan to have a break for a few hours after sunset to allow the skyglow to dissipate so the stars can really shine through. It sounds like a pain but it really pays off in the end!
