Romantic Elopement at Glen Oak’s Bridge House, Big Sur
Ryan and Emily’s Glen Oak Wedding Ceremony
Deep in the redwoods of the central coast of California area lies a beautiful cabin along the Big Sur River. Glen Oak’s Bridge House is an architectural delight that seems to blend into the surrounding forest instead of displacing it. This unique destination not only makes for an incredible place to stay after a long day of exploring the Big Sur coast, but is also an ideal elopement destination. Just a short walk from the house you’ll find a majestic grove of mature redwoods forming a fairy circle of sorts. This ring of trees makes for a magical wedding ceremony venue for intimate elopements or small weddings.
We met up with Ryan and Emily early in the day at the bridge house just before their wedding ceremony was to begin and got to know the couple as they put on the final touches for the big event. Once all glammed up they were ready to head to the Redwood cathedral and say I do. In the shadow of these giants they said their vows and shared their first kiss as husband and wife. After many hugs, handshakes and family photos they were ready to head off for the days adventures.
Leaving the Bridge House involves crossing its namesake, a suspension bridge across the Big Sur river. In addition to just being awesome, it is also a great location for photos! From there we walked the redwood studded trails of Glen Oaks and soon found ourselves walking the shoreline of the river. They skipped rocks, whispered in each other’s ears and lounged together watching the water babbling by. We then took a little break for lunch and would see each other again for a sunset session later that afternoon.
Sunset at Garrapata state park
Just a short drive from the bridge house is the rugged cliffs of Garrapata State Park, the perfect place for a sunset elopement session. The trails wind atop the coast above the crashing waves and calls of seabirds enjoying the rocks sticking up from the surf. The view of the coastline stretching away from here is an incredible backdrop and at sunset the golden light is divine. Wooden bridges span canyons and steps are carved into the rocky trail. From the forest to the sea Big Sur has everything an eloping couple could ever want.
